Everything you need to set up and use Aube AI on your Shopify store.

Getting Started

1. Install from the Shopify App Store

Click Install Free on the Aube AI listing. Shopify will ask you to approve the required permissions — these are used exclusively to look up orders, products, and policies on your customers' behalf.

2. Automatic sync

After installation, Aube AI automatically syncs your product catalog and store policies (shipping, refund, privacy). This usually takes under a minute. You'll see a confirmation in your dashboard.

3. Widget goes live

The chat widget is automatically injected into your storefront. Customers can start chatting immediately — no theme edits required.

Tip: Visit your store in a private/incognito window to see the widget as a customer would.

Widget Setup

Customization

In your dashboard, go to Settings → Widget Customization to configure:

  • Primary color — matches your brand
  • Welcome message — the first message customers see

A live preview updates as you type so you can see exactly how the widget will look.

Proactive messages

On Starter and above, the widget automatically opens after 30 seconds on product pages and sends a proactive message to engage visitors. This is enabled by default and requires no configuration.

What the AI can do out of the box

  • Look up order status by order number + customer email
  • Cancel orders that haven't shipped yet
  • Search and recommend products by description
  • Answer questions about shipping, returns, and store policies
  • Respond in the customer's language automatically

Knowledge Base

The knowledge base lets you teach the AI custom information about your store — FAQs, care instructions, size guides, wholesale policies, and anything else not covered by your Shopify data.

Adding entries

  1. Go to Knowledge Base in your dashboard
  2. Click Add Entry
  3. Enter a question and a detailed answer
  4. Save — the AI will use this immediately

Tips for good entries

  • Write answers as if explaining to a customer, not a technical user
  • Include common misspellings or alternate phrasings in the question
  • Keep answers concise — the AI will expand naturally if needed
Free plan: Up to 5 knowledge base entries. Upgrade to Starter or above for unlimited entries.

Human Handoff

When the AI can't confidently answer a question, it tells the customer a human will follow up and flags the conversation in your dashboard.

Email alerts

Add your email address under Settings → Escalation Notifications. You'll receive an alert with the conversation whenever the AI flags a handoff.

Replying from the dashboard

Open the conversation in Conversations, type your reply, and press Enter. The customer sees your message in the widget in real time.

Resolving a conversation

Once you've handled a customer's issue, click Mark Resolved in the conversation header to close it. Resolved conversations are kept in your history for reference.

Analytics

The Analytics page gives you a view of how your AI support is performing, with a period selector for the last 7, 30, or 90 days.

Metrics available

  • Total Conversations — total chats in the selected period
  • AI Resolution Rate — % of conversations resolved by AI without human help
  • Needs Attention — conversations waiting for a human reply
  • Conversations Left — remaining quota this month (∞ on Pro)
  • Customer Satisfaction — thumbs up/down ratings from customers

Charts

  • Daily Conversations — total vs AI-resolved per day
  • Customer Languages — breakdown of detected languages
Pro tip: If your AI Resolution Rate is below 70%, check the Needs Attention conversations — the recurring topics are good candidates to add to your Knowledge Base.

Settings

AI Tone

Under Settings → AI Tone, choose how the assistant communicates with your customers:

  • Professional — formal and business-appropriate
  • Friendly — warm and approachable (default)
  • Casual — relaxed and conversational

AI Actions

Under Settings → AI Actions, control what the AI is allowed to do:

  • Allow AI to cancel orders — when enabled, the AI can cancel unfulfilled orders after verifying the customer's email. Shipped orders are always protected.
  • Auto-approve refunds under $X — refund requests below this amount are processed automatically. Set to $0 to require manual approval for all refunds.

Subscription management

View your current plan and usage under Settings → Plan. Click any plan button to upgrade — you'll be redirected to a secure Stripe checkout and your new limits are active immediately after payment.

Data & Security

  • All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest
  • Conversation data is retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
  • Your store data is never used to train AI models or shared with third parties
  • Uninstalling the app stops all data collection immediately
  • You can request full data deletion at any time by emailing hello@aubeai.io
